Trek in Dolpa
Dolpa or Dolpo?
Simply put, Dolpo is a place within Dolpa! Dolpa is the region and Inner Dolpo is the small and remote Shangri-la in the north of the region. Dolpa was first opened to trekkers in 1990 and Inner Dolpo only in 1992.
Few tourists visit Dolpa but the few that make the effort are well rewarded. The trekking can be tough and remote but here you find authentic, untouched culture and unspoiled, spectacular landscapes
Its remoteness and small numbers of visitors mean that facilities are much less developed than the common trekking areas of Nepal. Trails can also be tough: rocky, very narrow and sometimes eroded by occasional landslides.
Undertaking a trek in Dolpo, for the time being at least, is for the more adventurous tourist who is content to sacrifice a little comfort in return for an unforgettable experience.
GHT Upper Dolpo to Jomsom trek Instead of following the more popular Dolpo Circuit trek, the Upper Dolpo to Jomsom trek heads further north to an area very close to the Tibet border and then walks out along the challenging trail to Jomsom giving you a good number of days on one of the most special sections of The Great Himalaya Trail.
Phoksundo Lake trek A short trek to the visually stunning Phoksumdo lake, feasible for semi-independent travellers
The Dolpa Circuit trek A 14 day camping trek that takes in some of the best that Dolpa has to offer including Bon villages, Phoksumdo lake, Dho Tarap and many wild trails in between.
Inner Dolpo trek High passes, Trans-Himalayan landscapes, and the fabulous Phoksumdo lake make for a remarkable journey to Shey Gompa, the spiritual heart of Inner Dolpo. One of Nepal’s most exceptional treks.
