The Makalu Barun National Park offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the Himalayas. The rewards of trekking here are great, but hard won – it’s remote, wilderness country and for the experienced trekker. The Makalu Base Camp Trek is an exception 19 day trek.

There is no doubt Makalu to Everest is the toughest and most challenging trek in Nepal due to the amount of days spent over 4,500m as well as having two mountaineering days required to cross the high passes.
However it is well worth the effort as Makalu to Everest is one of the most scenic treks in Nepal with superb views all the way up the Barun Valley (known as Yosemite of Nepal).

Also this video on Youtube manages to convey the extent to which you are really dwarfed by [...]

Kurt Diemberger, one of the pioneers in high altitude mountaineering and thus one of its great names, was in Nepal for the last week to celebrate the golden jubilee anniversary of his first ascent of Dhaulagiri. At the end of the 3 day celebrations based in Pokhara, he spent his last hours before flying at a press conference organised by the Mountaineering Association of Nepal at the Yak and Yeti hotel. Billi Bierling relates a few of the anecdotes he told here in her blog post ‘The highest post office in the world‘ and tells more about his career in the mountains. I liked [...]

The Asian Golden Cat is found across large parts of South, Central, and Southeast Asia. It is similar to a leopard in size and behaviour and only weighs up to 16kg. Because Asian Golden Cats prefer deciduous and tropical forests interspersed with rocky openings, they are only found up to 3,000m.
