Edurne Pasaban has just climbed all 14 8000m peaks and is the second woman in the world to do so. There has been just a little controversy, given that the first woman to do, Oh Eun-sun of South Korea, so far has not produced photographic evidence of herself on the summit of Kanchenjunga. Still I prefer Kurt Diemberger’s approach to climbing, for the aesthetic pleasure of it rather than for competition or records, which he called “a disease of our times”.
