The Great Himalaya Trail is a network of existing trails. There are two main routes and many alternative connecting trails allowing you to be flexible with distance, according to the weather and where you want visit. The upper GHT route passes through many established trekking areas, and some of its sections take in passes over 5000m. The three passes between Everest and Makalu Barun cross 6000m requiring some mountaineering experience. It has a reputation as one of the trickiest trekking passes in Nepal, but offers a great alternative, or addition, to trekking in the Everest Region. Also take a look at these excellent and unusual pictures from the Rolwaling trek: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29123216@N05/4019917185/in/faves-the_great_himalaya_trail/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/29123216@N05/4065658192/in/set-72157622439517359/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/29123216@N05/4002597484/in/set-72157622439517359/

The Limi Valley in north Humla is visited every year by only a few intrepid people visiting it for a trekking or walking holiday. It must be one of the most beautiful and remote places left in the entire Himalayas . The Limi Khola, a tributary of the mighty Karnali River, flows and tumbles through the valley which runs north-east to south-west at an altitude of 4000m. About 1800 inhabitants live in Limi’s three main villages [...]

Maps of Nepal is a compact 4m square office on the busy and dusty New Baneshwor road sandwiched (at the time of writing) between two shops selling bright-coloured, fibreglass bathroom products. It is the place to find all (most) of the 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 sheet maps of Nepal and all kinds of government surveys, statistics, geological reports etc. It is not always fully stocked but worth going to try your luck. Maps of Nepal is on the northern side of the New Baneshwor road, somewhere close to the centre of the map below.View Larger Map
