Most people who come to Dolpa come in tenting groups. However, staying in hotels is a nice way to get into touch with the local population. The hotels in Dolpa are simple guesthouses and homestays. They generally have 2 to 4 rooms for guests and charge between 200-300 NPR a room. You have to bring your own sleeping bag. In Dolpa it is common to have a big kitchen, while it is at the same time the living area, as this is the only warm place in the house. Update: a good, printable no-nonsense guide to permits and fees can be found here on the Keep Nepal website: Biodata form If you are applying for a mountaineering permit, which may apply for the Tashi Labsta, Saribung or one of many other trekking peaks, then you will need to fill in a bio-data form and pass this to your agency. You can do this online and add signature and photograph to the form when in Kathmandu. Maps of Nepal is a compact 4m square office on the busy and dusty New Baneshwor road sandwiched (at the time of writing) between two shops selling bright-coloured, fibreglass bathroom products. It is the place to find all (most) of the 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 sheet maps of Nepal and all kinds of government surveys, statistics, geological reports etc. It is not always fully stocked but worth going to try your luck.
