Lake Rara

Rara lake is the largest lake in Nepal. It is also one of the highest lakes in the world, sitting at 2980m in a valley surrounded by lush forests and stunning mountain views. The lake is as deep as 167 meters, over 16km2 and is so large that it will reflect the entirety of the Tibetan Himalaya range in its surface, so legend has it.
Rara lake and national park is off the beaten trail. While many acknowledge it as a beautiful place to visit, very few make the trip, less than 100 or so per year.
Trekking here is perfect for nature lovers. Camp by the lake and enjoy the rich wildlife of the area: endangered red panda, gaurs, musk deer, yellow-throated martin and a wide variety of birds.
To get to Rara you commonly fly to Gamgadhi, the closest air strip, or to Jumla where you can begin the Rara Trek which encircles the lake in around 12 days.
Try the local red rice in this area if you can.
